The other place was Villa De Garcia a beautiful fishing town on the Rijas Baxias. Recently my trips to Spain, I captured still shots in the streets of Pontevedra and alongside I captured short video clips of the festivals of music, people dancing and this gave a whole new life to the series of still images. Often you can have a great series of still images but it lacks the other dimensions of sound and movement. My love for videos is it blends wonderfully with stills. Of course for serious videos I opt for Adobe Premiere and this is a whole new sphere of learning!Īs Sung has mentioned in a previous thread with MOV format it is easy to upload so long as you don't have edit the files it is like capturing OOC Jpegs unedited. My interest in video relates to keeping the work flow simple and fun. With VR on a lens the stability is very good in most situations but of course a gimbal is preferred. Since I don't shoot video seriously I can't comment on the IQ of the video, but to my layman's eyes it seems pretty impressive too The focus peaking works excellent even with my old (modified) pre AI and AI manual lenses for photography, and I strongly expect that also to be the case with video Took a few very short video's for fun during a catwalk show shoot, and found it easy to see what subject/area of the image the AF point was aiming at / sticking to while shooting a moving model or while moving/panning the camera The AF point selected follows the subject easily even when moving (at a moderate speed), while on the LCD (as well in the EVF) thanks to the clearly visible AF point used Just dial in AF Auto, aim and select the area the AF to start focusing on, and start shooting On my Z6's however using AF for video is a breeze, with it indeed doing a pretty good (superb?) job even in in my as far as video is concerned inexperienced hands It's still pretty slow and noisy, and while focus peaking is available in Live View, I find it pretty cumbersome to use Got a D850 some time ago, and while the IQ is impressive and the Live View UI has improve significantly, the AF remains a pain That said, there were two things in particular that struck (and bothered) meįirst was the inconvenience of having to shoot in Live View (prefer to use the viewfinder), which on the D800 still was pretty rudimentary, and second the well known pretty awful AF in Live view and video Have played around with it just to see what all the buzz was about, but never made it a prime interest Did I read that one of them (the Z6?) does a superb job of AF in video?ĭespite having video available since I got my first D800 in 2012, being first and foremost a stills photographer, I never used it in earnest Hoping to see the videos that people take with the Z’s. The D850 *does* take super videos in 1080, where focus peaking is available. I do admit I am relatively new to video and it is a real challenge.īefore spring, I hope to make a selection for a fluid head. As it is now, I have resolved to staying on land for that stable base. Maybe someone knows the cure for this one. Even on placid waters (except in morning stillness), there is yaw, from even sight air currents. I hope this catches on.ĭon't you have trouble stabilizing vids when handholding? I know in my watercraft, it is damned near impossible to get video without the finish clip bobbing up and down severely. For wildlife documentation, I absolutely love video. However, with the advent of the Z’s maybe an interest will evolve. I suggested one last year, but there was not the interest. I love the MOV file as it makes it easy to upload directly into websites, and social media. With my D850 I am using lenses with image stabilization such as the 70-200E or 24-120/4G for videos. The intent of the thread is to share settings and techniques that we are now using with the Z7, Z6 and DSLR's. Now with the introduction of the Z7 and Z6 both excellent for videos, many still have their antiquated DSLR's taking video clips Videos with Nikon - techniques and methods.
